Taking advantage of local sunlight and wind resources, Mulei Kazak autonomous county in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region is promoting the development of new energy power generation.

Located in the Mulei wind-solar-electricity industrial park, Huadian Xinjiang Power Generation Co is building an 800,000 kilowatt wind power plant and a 250,000 kilowatt photovoltaic plant.

Upon completion, the project will generate more than 2.6 billion kilowatt-hours of "green electricity" annually, equivalent to a reduction of more than 850,000 tons of standard coal. It will decrease carbon dioxide emissions by 2.38 million metric tons.

"To mitigate the intermittency of photovoltaic and wind energy, we are establishing an energy storage system for excess energy produced during periods of high generation. We will then release it to supplement high demand periods or during low generation periods. It will help maintain grid stability and ensure a reliable and consistent power supply," said Feng Yaolong, who is in charge of equipment inspection and repairs for the project.

The project will optimize the local energy structure, support the construction of modern industrial system and strengthen the Xinjiang economy.
